I'mmmm Baaaack!!!!

Almost exactly a year to the day I'm back to blogging. I have a few things that I have written since that I would like to post and I have new ideas for posts. I have been a bad blogger I know; a whole year since my last post and almost a whole year before that post.

What have I learned? 1)You really don't need anything to talk about. 2)Reading is not the laxative for writing; daydreaming is. Staring blankly at the computer screen will zap your brain of all thought, so get the hell away from it. Go to your favorite daydreaming spot - shady hammock, the window seat with the soft pillows, laying on the bed staring at the ceiling, whatever - and make the real world go away. It might be a good idea to toss a notebook and pen on the floor/ground next to you in case you want to write down an idea for later.

I would also suggest having that notebook and pen next to your bed. Both Stephenie Meyers (Twilight) and Stephen King (Misery) have gotten a story idea from a dream. While you sleep your creativity takes over good or bad.

But really why am I giving you writing tips? Are you writing a book? You are aren't you? I can list half a dozen people I know that are "writing a book". I know because they like to tell everyone about it. *sigh* I'm sorry but the fact that so many people are "writing a book" and taking it so seriously just makes what I'm trying to do seem like a monkey masturbating. OK dear friends, are you trying to do this for a living, are you trying to get published, do you think you have more than one story in you, basically what the hell are you trying to prove?

Me? Yes, yes, yes, that I can achieve my dream life and live for my passions. To immerse myself in my passions and share it with people who are just as excited about writing and all forms of creative story telling. To collaborate and put out a story complete with good writing, that's well produced, and has fully formed characters that light up the story. I want to get excited about the end product; I want my eyes to go wide with childlike pride when a completed story comes out knowing that I/we put are best work into the show, book, movie, play. I can almost feel the anticipation just blogging about it.

So if you want the same thing that I want, let's talk. If you don't, if you are just writing a book to tell people you're writing a book, then let me know when it comes out; meanwhile I'll be doing my best to ignore you.

Is This Writer's Block

I've always thought of writer's block being something more like constipation. Sitting in front of a computer trying to squeeze out a story. But I haven't been trying to write at all. That may be due to the fact that I'm not sure what to write or that what I do write I think up is crap (tha-t does fit into my metaphor, anyway). I have heard that in order to write you need to read. So if reading is the fiber then maybe I should take my medicine and let the crap flow, the good and the bad.

Am I experiencing writer's block? If anybody reads this, tell me what you think by leaving a comment. Thank you.

It's The Cake I Swear!

I've been helping my sister (we'll call her Mia) with some of her wedding plans. At first I had nothing to add to the discussion. "Where should we have the ceremony and reception?" How should I know? All of my married friends got married either while the friendship was on a break or too far away and i couldn't get time off to attend, so I have no frame of reference. (Except for relatives' weddings from when I was a child.)

Then Mia sent an email to the group wanting to know our opinion on the cake and the email included a link to a cake website. She now had my attention. I was all over the Web with cake on the brain (that is not a cocaine reference). I printed off pictures of decorated cakes that I liked; next I started searching the Net for other aspects of a wedding, such as save-the-date cards, invitations, favors, and decorations.

Suddenly I realized, if someone would come into my office and see all the pages I collected and the sites I 'd been visiting they would think I was nuts. A single girl planning which cake she is going to serve at her "some day" wedding to her nonexistent boyfriend, crraaazyy.

Believe me, I am not that girl. I am not the always center of attention, "look at me, look at me" type. I do not believe that love will conquer all of my demons and "If I just get married my life will be perfect," or "I just need to be married I don't care to whom." (By the way, I'm currently cleaning out my demon closet and some of them are just getting dusted off and put right back. What? I like them.)

Whenever I would see pictures of someone's wedding I would think about how uncomfortable I would be in front of everyone I know. The only saving grace would be if the groom (if it is to be) was the star of the show and I a supporting player. But as I think about Mia's wedding and the idea that a wedding is a celebration of family and loved ones, not a showcase of vanities, I realize it could be a fun and touching event, whether you're the bride or a guest.

And if I should ever forget that, remind me of the huge, multi-tiered, frosted cake. In fact if I'm reluctant to go somewhere you wish me to go, cake will get me there.
